Watch: Football legend Zinedine Zidane almost gives Charles Leclerc’s Miami Sprint P2 trophy to third place Sergio Perez
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

At the end of the 2024 Miami Sprint race, the top three were Max Verstappen , Charles Leclerc, and Sergio Perez (in this order). As the Award ceremony was taking place, footballing legend, Zinedine Zidane was present at the scene giving the trio their awards.

However, a hilarious moment took place when Zinedine Zidane by mistake, was about to hand out the P2 trophy to Sergio Perez instead of Charles Leclerc. But seeing Perez’s gesture, Zidane acted swiftly and handed the trophy to the Monegasque driver.

As Zidane handed the trophy he greeted Leclerc and congratulated him. Ahead of the Sprint, not many would’ve expected the race result, especially considering that Leclerc got hit by Esteban Ocon ahead of the Sprint in the pitlane.

Luckily no damage was done to the Monegasque driver’s SF-24 and thus, he was able to secure a solid second-place finish. However, Ocon was handed a ten-second penalty which he served during the 19-lap race.

Charles Leclerc’s take on Adrian Newey’s potential move to Ferrari

Recently, Red Bull Racing released an official statement about Adrian Newey’s departure during the initial months of 2025. As known, after Aston Martin’s massive offer to Newey, Ferrari has also shown their interest. Charles Leclerc claims he would be very happy to have Newey on the Maranello-based outfit.

While shedding light on the same, he had the following to say.

I would obviously be very happy. I think Adrian is one of those guys in the paddock that you hope to be working with one day in your career. We have an incredible team in Ferrari at the moment. In the last seven to eight months, we are the team that have progressed the most. However, adding Adrian to a team like this would be amazing. Charles Leclerc via: Formula1

As per the official statement, Newey would be stepping back from his F1 duties to focus on Red Bull’s first-ever hypercar, the RB17’s development. The 65-year-old would be able to join any team he desires for 2025. Keeping in view how the silly season has panned out so far, it’s going to be fascinating to see where the legendary designer will end up for next season.
